How the formula works

Download time is estimated by converting file size into bits and dividing by the connection speed in megabits per second.

Time in seconds = file size in bits ÷ speed in bits per second

That is why MB and Mbps are not the same thing.

Why does the estimate differ from the real download?

Because real downloads include overhead and are affected by the server, your router, Wi‑Fi strength, other devices, and local congestion.

Can I use this for game downloads and updates?

Yes. It works well for games, patches, cloud backups, operating system updates, and large media files.

Should I enter the advertised ISP speed or the speed I actually get?

Use the speed you actually get during real downloads or a realistic wired speed-test result.

What is a good download speed?

25 Mbps can be enough for smaller downloads. 100 Mbps is solid for most homes. 300 Mbps and above becomes valuable when you download large files often.
